Shubman Gill is a young Indian cricketer who was born in Fazilka, Punjab. He is a right-handed opening batsman and occasionally bowls right-arm off-break.
Gill started playing cricket at a very young age and made his debut in first-class cricket for Punjab in 2017. In his debut match against Bengal, he scored a century, leaving a strong first impression.
In the same year, he played for India in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. He scored the highest number of runs for India in the tournament and helped the team reach the final. He was awarded the Player of the Tournament for his exceptional performance.
Gill made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2018, playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He was retained by the team for the following season. In IPL 2019, he scored 296 runs in 14 matches, with his highest score being 76 not out.
In the last months of 2019, Gill made his debut for the Indian cricket team in a home series against West Indies. He impressed everyone with his batting skills and scored his maiden half-century in the second match of the series.
In 2020, Gill was selected in the Indian squad for the Test series against Australia. He made his Test debut in the second match of the series and scored 45 runs in the second innings, helping India win the match. He played all four Tests in the series and scored a total of 259 runs with an average of 51.80, including two half-centuries.
Gill continued to improve his performance in the domestic cricket season and was appointed captain of the India A team for the England tour in 2021. He scored a century against England Lions in the second unofficial Test and was also included in India's squad for the World Test Championship final.
